William Jordan - President
William Jordan, MD, MPH is currently a Faculty Development
Fellow at Montefiore in New York. He completed a residency
in General Preventive Medicine and MPH at Mount Sinai School
of Medicine, where he served as Chief Resident under a grant
from the American Cancer Society. After earning his MD in
Montreal at McGill University, he completed residency training
in Family and Social Medicine in the Bronx. He has worked
extensively in primary care and preventive medicine with
immigrants and people with chronic mental illness. More
recently, his work has focused on healthy food availability,
and economic development as a means to improve community
health.

Heleodora Vivar - Co-Vice President
Heleodora Vivar joined the Board in 2008. She is a street
vendor and mother of seven children. In the past, she has
helped organize Wednesday street vendor meetings at the Church
of the Ascension (221 W 107 St in Manhattan) with guest speakers
on topics including immigration, domestic violence and health,
among others. Ms. Vivar hopes that street vendor meetings
can serve as a forum to discuss community problems and solutions.
In addition to working in clothing manufacturing and a Mexican
restaurant, Ms. Vivar has entrepreneurial experience managing
her own catering business. |
Lidia Calleja - Co-Vice President
Lidia Calleja was a founding board member of Esperanza. She
rejoined the board in 2009. |
Pedro Prado-Ocegueda - Secretary
Pedro
Prado-Ocegueda is Pastor of the Primera Iglesia Bautista. He
was a founding board member. He rejoined the board in 2009. |
Araceli Rodriguez - Honorary Chair
Araceli
Rodriguez is a past President of the board. Her goal is to help
street vendors obtain a general license. Ms. Rodriguez believes
that Esperanza is a staple of the street-vending community because
of our long and ongoing struggle to protect the rights of all
vendors. Ms. Rodriguez has worked as a street vendor during
the summer months. She has also worked in manufacturing, restaurants,
and cleaning. The mother of two children, Ms. Rodriguez loves
to cook Latino, Puerto Rican and Italian food.
